Residents in the NICCU
Under the supervision of a neonatology attending and a neonatology fellow, your baby’s day-to-day care in our Newborn and Infant Care Unit may be provided by one of our Pediatric Residents.
Pediatric Residents have completed their medical school and received an M.D. and have completed one year of internship in Pediatrics. They rotate to provide service and obtain postgraduate education in the NICCU for 4-weeks at a time. Under the direction of the attending neonatologist and the neonatology fellow and in accordance with best practices in care, the pediatric residents who care for your child will:
- Assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans
- Write orders for care
- Perform certain procedures such as lumbar puncture and endotracheal intubation
