Virtual Care at School

Children's Hospital Los Angeles and Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) have joined together to offer virtual health care visits for children at school through the Virtual Care at School Program. The program’s goal is to create a personalized and convenient way for children to receive care at school from CHLA specialists without being absent for an appointment.

Virtual Care at School: Overview

For many students with a chronic illness, doctor’s appointments involve inconvenient coordination and logistics. In many cases, students miss school while parents and caregivers lose time in their day.

Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, in partnership with Los Angeles Unified School District, is offering virtual visits at your child’s school through the Virtual Care at School Program. We will bring care to you and your child, placing your family at the center.

To participate, your child must be:

  • 12 years or older
  • A student at a participating LAUSD school**

* Virtual visits are available in the following specialties:

Schedule a Visit

How do I schedule an appointment?

We are here to discuss your child’s eligibility and help you schedule your child’s virtual visit. Our dedicated CHLA Program Coordinator is looking forward to helping you and your child navigate the process of scheduling an at-school virtual visit. To reach our Program Coordinator, who is fluent in Spanish and English, please call 323-284-3829 between the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

What will the coordination on the day of the appointment look like?

On the day of the virtual visit, your child will be summoned from class and provided a safe, quiet and private place to access the virtual visit. The designated school personnel (DSP) will then provide your child with the necessary equipment to successfully access the virtual visit. Your child does not need to bring an iPad, phone, laptop or portable electronic device for the virtual visit.

How will my child and I access the virtual visit when we are not in the same location?

Your child will access the virtual visit from a link sent to their LAUSD email address. The attending parent/guardian will receive the link to the visit via their requested contact method about 20 minutes prior to the scheduled time of the visit. Parents are expected to join the visit 10 minutes prior to the starting time.
