The Department of Surgery brings together special pediatric experts who are dedicated to providing family-centered care.
We perform over 15,400 surgical procedures annually for children ranging in age from newborns to adolescents, unlike practices where procedures are routinely performed for adults and these approaches are simply adjusted to fit a child.
Surgical Care Divisions
The Department of Surgery provides care through each of its Divisions. Each Division is staffed by board-certified physicians, who together represent one of the largest pediatric multispecialty medical and surgical groups in the United States dedicated to providing care for newborns through adolescents.

Surgery Facilities
Patients recovering at our hospital are treated in the hospital’s spacious, state-of-the-art Burtie Green Bettingen Surgery Center, which opened in 2001. For patients undergoing same-day procedures who can recover with their family at home, care is provided in our Ambulatory Surgery Center.
Surgery Programs
Robotic Surgery Program
For children, smaller incisions, reduced pain and faster recovery times are the goal of our surgeons. Our hospital is one of the few in the nation with surgeons certified to provide robotic-assisted laparascopic surgery for children.
LESS Surgery
Laparo-endoscopic single-site surgery (LESS) results in single incisions that are often so small that this approach has earned the nickname of "scarless surgery." For children, the benefits of a single incision can be significant, making this an option that is often preferred by families and provided by our physicians.
