Endocrinology Fellows in Research
Under the direction of physicians, scientists and mentors such as Dr. Mitchell Geffner, endocrinology fellows are exploring the causes, effects and treatments of diabetes, including:
- Glycemic control and blood lipid levels
- Regulation of glucose metabolism
- The role of perinatal overnutrition and undernutrition in feeding pathway development in the brain
Fellows work with mentors in the clinics and in The Saban Research Institute of Children's Hospital Los Angeles, one of the world’s pre-eminent pediatric research centers. The Institute brings together more than 100 investigators engaged in 251 laboratory studies, clinical trials and community-based research services.
Investigators at Children's Hospital Los Angeles have made globally significant breakthroughs in some of the most challenging areas of pediatric disease, including diabetes, cancer, epilepsy and heart disease.
Advances in research often depend upon the successes of innovative studies that are not initially eligible for support from the prestigious National Institutes of Health (NIH). Our friends in the community play a crucial role in advancing the cause of biomedical research.
Every dollar raised for research leverages $8 to $10 in extramural funding. Therefore, philanthropic funds play a key role, enabling researchers to pursue exciting new research that might not otherwise be possible.
