Virtual Urgent Care

Virtual Urgent Care is an online service that can help your child get treated for non-emergency illnesses or injuries. Our telehealth visits let you communicate online with a Children’s Hospital Los Angeles provider in a video meeting on your computer, tablet or phone. This means you don’t have to leave the house and spend time waiting in an emergency room or other urgent care location.

Who Can Use Virtual Urgent Care

Use Virtual Urgent Care when your child is experiencing a non-emergency illness or injury.

You can schedule a Virtual Urgent Care visit for:

  • Fever without any alarming symptoms or complications
  • Cough, sore throat, runny nose, congestion and other flu-like symptoms
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Skin rashes
  • Constipation
  • Eye problems like styes, pinkeye or irritation
  • Allergies
  • Minor injuries such as bumps, bruises, cuts and scrapes
  • Ingrown toenails
  • Insect stings and bites

If your child has an emergency, illness or injury not listed above, please go to an in-person urgent care, visit an emergency department, or call 911, depending on the circumstances. Virtual Urgent Care cannot treat any life-threatening conditions.

Virtual visits are available for patients up to age 21. A referral is not required and your child does not need to be a current CHLA patient.

How It Works

Set up a Virtual Urgent Care visit in four easy steps:

  1. Call 833-CHLAHealth (833-245-2432).
  2. Tell us about your child’s non-emergency illness or injury and provide your insurance information.
  3. We’ll tell you what appointment times are available and schedule an appointment for your child.
  4. We will text or email you a link to connect to the virtual visit 15 minutes before the appointment. Please plan to be ready 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. You will need a smartphone, tablet or computer with a working camera and microphone for the virtual visit.

What Does It Cost?

CHLA charges for a Virtual Urgent Care visit just like any other urgent care visit. We accept most major insurance plans. If your insurance provider or health plan does not cover the full amount for services, you will get a bill. Please call 833-245-2432 to confirm that we take your insurance. You can also do this when you call to make an appointment. Please note that insurance plans may charge different rates for different levels of service. If you do not have insurance, you may still use Virtual Urgent Care at a discounted price. Please call to confirm.

We can send prescriptions to your child’s pharmacy during the Virtual Urgent Care visit. If your child needs to get physical tests, the Virtual Urgent Care provider will tell you how and where to get them.

After the visit is done, a visit summary will be available on your child's MyChildren'sLA Patient Portal. To sign up for the Patient Portal, click here.
