Filling Your Child’s Prescription
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles partners with Walgreens to provide your family access to a pharmacy on site. Located in the Outpatient Tower, near the majority of our clinics, this pharmacy offers a convenient location for filling a prescription or picking up over-the-counter medications.

Services for Admitted Patients
Our hospital’s integrated network of inpatient pharmacies serve as a concierge for clinicians providing care. In each of our inpatient units, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians work alongside doctors and nurses, distributing medication for patients, rounding daily with the care teams, monitoring patient profiles and providing pharmacy consultations.
In addition, when requested, our pharmacists also provide drug information and medication consultations for patients and families on the units.
The staff at our central pharmacy and satellite pharmacies, located in key places throughout the Marion and John E. Anderson Pavilion, provide many services that our clinicians rely on, including:
- Preparing sterile intravenous medications and fluids
- Compounding and dispensing oral medications
- Providing specialized pharmacy services for specific procedures or advanced care protocols
- Supporting clinical trials research by ensuring that storage, security, packaging, labeling and inventory maintenance of investigational drugs comply with federal, state and institutional standards
- Providing a Tdap vaccination service for our patients’ families prior to a child’s discharge
Services for CHLA Specialty Pharmacy Patients
Parents can face many challenges when navigating complex pharmaceutical care for their children. That's why the team at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Specialty Pharmacy, consisting of skilled pharmacy technicians and clinical pharmacists, is committed to providing tailored services for pediatric patients who have been prescribed specialty medications. These specialty medications are typically necessary to treat complex conditions. They come with significant costs, need special handling or storage, and may not be readily available at local pharmacies.
The CHLA Specialty Pharmacy collaborates with your other health care team members to ensure that patients get the specialty medications they need in time, at the most affordable rates possible.
Our pharmacists specializing in complex diseases are available when you need assistance, whether it's to discuss medications, address symptoms, manage side effects, or answer any questions about your child's medication therapy.
The CHLA Specialty Pharmacy offers a patient care management program to improve care for specific medical conditions. The Pharmacy team will provide ongoing evaluation, monitoring, assessment of educational needs, and management of medication use. Participation in the patient management program is voluntary and is offered at no cost to patients or families. We recognize families may be overwhelmed at times with various appointments and discussions with health care providers; you may opt out of the patient management program at any time by speaking with one of the Pharmacy staff in person or by phone.
A licensed CHLA pharmacist is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for any urgent needs relating to a patient’s medication. Our team has access to your child’s care plan, and clinical team members are available to answer questions to help ensure that families can be successful in administering medications to achieve a child’s best possible health.
