Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Joins East Hollywood Neighborhood Council, Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell’s office and Ricks’ Produce Market to distribute free fresh produce boxes to the local community

From November through January, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) will be co-sponsoring a program to provide fresh food boxes to local community members in need. The hospital is collaborating with East Hollywood Neighborhood Council, Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell’s office and Ricks’ Produce Market to sponsor the twice-monthly program that runs through January and takes place at Rick’s Produce Market.

“As CHLA team members, we play an important role in the community in which we work. As we approach the holiday season, there is a great opportunity to give back to our neighbors and to families experiencing need during these challenging times,” says Rolando Gomez, Administrator of Government & Community Affairs at CHLA. “We are humbled to be one of the entities sponsoring this vital community program with our local partners as part of CHLA’s Community Impact anchor initiatives.”

During the launch of the food box giveaway last Sunday, Oct. 25, 10 CHLA team members were among the many volunteers from the community participating in the event, which distributed more than 125 boxes to community members, as well as delivering 15 boxes to the Hollywood Food coalition, Gomez says, noting that the hospital will be helping staff the program with volunteers throughout the holiday season. “We are helping staff the program with a team from the hospital’s Community Impact Champions Network, which contributes to a variety of activities focusing on sustainability, safety, environmental and food access initiatives in the communities surrounding the hospital,” she says.

The distribution of free fresh produce boxes to the local community members occurs on the first and third Sundays of the month at 10 am. Food is distributed at Rick’s Produce Market at 755 N. Virgil on a first-come first-serve basis while supplies last. Please line up early to ensure you get a box. Limit is one box per household and please wear a mask and maintain social distance while waiting in line. Below are the remaining dates and for more information go to www.easthollywood.net
