Staff Education and Training
The Patient Care Services (PCS) Research education and training program aims to create a critical mass of PCS health professionals— staff nurses, clinical nurse specialists, nurse practitioners, chaplains, child life specialists, nutritionists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, physical therapists, rehabilitation specialists, respiratory therapists, social workers, and speech therapists--competent to participate in the conduct of research and to translate research findings for use at the bedside to improve patient care and health care outcomes.

The PCS Research Council
The Research Council is a constituent of the PCS Collaborative Governance structure. Its purpose is to promote and support PCS research initiatives and EBP at CHLA. Its members comprise representatives from all PCS work areas, advanced practice nurse representative, manager/mentor, PCS Nurse Researcher, Collaborative Governance representative, Committee on Clinical Investigation (CCI) representative, MD representative, and a PCS Director.
Second Annual Research Day
Patient Care Services Education, Research, and Development Council (PCS ERDC) held its second Annual Research Day on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the John Stauffer Auditorium at the Marion and John E. Pavilion, Children’s Hospital, Los Angeles with the theme, Creating a Culture of Research Through Evidence-Based Practice. The keynote speaker was MarySue V. Heileman, PhD, RN, Associate Professor at the UCLA School of Nursing, who spoke on Resilience, Trauma, and Mental Health among Latinas: Implications for Women and Families. Eleven podium speakers from Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Audiology, and Medicine presented their studies following the keynote address. At the same time, 19 poster presentations were on display throughout the day.
