Attending Physician
Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, Keck School of Medicine of USC

H. Paco Kang, MD, is an orthopedic tumor specialist at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles who focuses on benign and malignant diseases in the pelvis and extremities. He earned his medical degree at Columbia University and completed an orthopedic residency at USC, including several rotations at CHLA. He then completed subspecialty fellowship training in both pediatric and adult musculoskeletal tumors at Boston Children's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital.

His main care philosophy is to work with a multidisciplinary team to deliver the highest-end care possible for any given disease. CHLA has access to a large group of nationally renowned experts in cancer care, and he works extremely closely with them to develop a personalized treatment plan for every patient. “A cancer diagnosis at any age is devastating, but even more so in children,” Dr. Kang says. “My goal is to ensure that families have a crystal clear understanding of the problem and their options, and then to attack the cancer as aggressively and as quickly as possible.”

His research interests span both basic and clinical sciences. Dr. Kang previously worked extensively in genomics and gene therapy labs, and his current interest is in developing sarcoma animal models that can serve as platforms for developing new therapeutic strategies. Clinically, his interest is in furthering the field of computer- and robotically assisted cancer surgeries and custom 3D implants in reconstruction.
