Anita Sicolo, MD, FAAP

Dr. Sicolo received her medical degree from University of California Irvine, School of Medicine in Irvine, California. She completed her internship and residency in pediatrics at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, Calif. She did her fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at UCLA/Mattel Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif. Dr. Sicolo is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology she also completed training in clinical pharmacology and is board qualified.

Dr. Sicolo will provide leadership as Medical Director of the Neurogastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Motility Program at CHLA.

Her areas of special interest include chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction, general gastroenterology and motility studies. She has a special interest in children with spina bifida as well. Dr. Sicolo has published several papers in peer-reviewed publications such as “Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition” and “Digestive Diseases and Sciences.” She has presented on various topics, including megacystis microcolon hypoperistalsis syndrome, celiac disease with intercurrent eosinophilic esophagitis, quality of life outcomes in congenital chronic pseudo-obstruction, and the molecular genetics of chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction. She has received numerous awards through her training, and was awarded a National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant for her research investigating the molecular genetics of chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction.

Dr. Sicolo speaks English, Spanish and Farsi.

Clinical Interests

Gastroenterology, Pediatric gastrointestinal motility disorders, chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction, Hirschsprung disease, colorectal disorders, functional gastrointestinal disorders, gastroparesis, chronic refractory constipation, and encopresis.

She specializes in motility testing, including esophageal, gastric, duodenal, colonic, and anorectal.
