Research Seminar: “Preparing Parents for Discharge: Back to Basics”

Presented by

Marianne Weiss, DNSc, RN
Professor Emerita of Nursing
Marquette University
Milwaukee, WI

Talk Summary

An IDEAL discharge is a complex process of parent and child-centered engagement in discharge planning, coordination, and teaching. At the center of this process is communication with parents/patients and between members of the interprofessional team. We will discuss the foundational role communication plays in optimizing discharge practices and outcomes. Research on quality of discharge teaching and health team communication about discharge will serve as examples of discharge problems and solutions.
