Research Seminar: “Advanced Applications of NIRS in Neonatal Asphyxia”

Speaker: Lina Chalak, MD, MSCS, Associate Professor in Pediatrics, Clinical Neonatologist, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center
Talk Summary: Newborns in the NICU born following an asphyxial injury are at significant risk of life-long neurodevelopmental disability. The global trend of neonatal neurocritical care involves trends of NIRS monitoring to predict outcomes. This lecture will discuss advanced NIRS applications beyond outcome predictions, to understand physiological mechanisms of cerebral autoregulation and neurovascular coupling in real time, as well as responses to therapies.
Hosted by Tai-Wei Wu, MD, Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, USC Keck School of Medicine, Attending Neonatologist, Center for Fetal and Neonatal Medicine
Newborn & Infant Critical Care Unit, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles
