Emergency Department

Children who come to our hospital with acute illness are greeted by a nurse who performs an initial examination and discusses the concerns of each child's parents to triage the child's care.  The nurse then determines whether a child's health condition is serious enough to warrant treatment in the Emergency Department.

The Division of Emergency and Transport provides 24-hour attending coverage in the Emergency Department.  Care is provided by:

  • 9 full-time physicians
  • 3 part-time physicians

Attending Staff

Our attending staff is a young, energetic group of physicians dedicated to the teaching and supervision of:

  • medical students
  • residents
  • pediatric emergency medicine fellows

All attendings are board-certified or board-eligible in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.

Allied Health Professionals

Clinical services are aided by the presence of full-time social workers and interpreters.  Pediatric residents from our hospital, as well as from five other pediatric, emergency medicine and family practice residency programs, rotate through the Department each year.
