America's Top Doctors
We are pleased to have its physicians accorded the prestige of being listed as one of America's Top Doctors (8th edition). Physicians selected for this honor change from year to year. Our physicians included in the latest edition of the book are:
Best Doctors in America
The physicians in The Vision Center at Children's Hospital Los Angeles have been listed among the Best Doctors in America® and are academically affiliated with the Doheny Eye Institute and Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California.
Background on Best Doctors®
Best Doctors® was founded in 1989 by doctors affiliated with Harvard University School of Medicine, and is considered one of the most respected and comprehensive knowledge-based medical referral services. Its worldwide database of 50,000 top medical specialists in more than 400 subspecialties is based on an exhaustive peer-review evaluation of the medical profession. The polling process is anonymous and confidential, qualitative and quantitative—a process that requires that every listed physician be re-evaluated with each new survey.
Only 5% of the doctors in any country are actually selected to become Best Doctors
LA Times Magazine Best Doctors
According to Los Angeles Times Magazine, Best Doctors is the largest continuous peer-to-peer survey of the medical profession ever conducted. Targeted surveys help to identify specialists who are considered by fellow physicians to be the most skilled in their fields and most qualified for reviewing and treating complex medical conditions.
The polling process is anonymous and confidential, qualitative and quantitative. Doctors do not pay to be included in the database, nor are they paid to participate in the survey. The judgment of peers is the determining factor. Up to 1.5 million evaluations are collected annually. Only 5% of the doctors in the country are actually selected for inclusion.

Los Angeles Magazine Super Doctors
Two physicians from The Vision Center at Children's Hospital Los Angeles have been selected for the SuperDoctors.com list of highly regarded Southern California doctors.
The Vision Center physicians named to the list are:
- Mark S. Borchert, MD, Director, Eye Birth Defects and Eye Technology Institutes
- A. Linn Murphree, MD, Director, Retinoblastoma Program
A complete list of all Southern California physicians selected for the list is available at www.SuperDoctors.com. The Super Doctors and SuperDoctors.com site is managed by Key Professional Media of Minneapolis, MN, which also publishes Super Lawyers, Super Dentists and Law & Politics magazine. The company publishes Super Doctors listings in Florida, Kansas and Texas.
Selection for SuperDoctors.com is based upon peer recommendation. Thousands of ballots were sent to local physicians asking, "If you needed medical care, which doctor would you choose?" The intent is to identify those doctors most highly regarded by their peers. Doctors may not self-nominate or pay for listings and safeguards are in place to prevent ballot manipulation.
The nominees are grouped into 30 medical practice areas and then checked to verify information and professional standing. A blue ribbon panel of medical professionals makes the final selection based upon a point score that includes the balloting response and panel recommendations.
The Super Doctors listing for Southern California is published in the January 2010 issue of Los Angeles Magazine.
