Research Overview

The Children’s Orthopaedic Center has pioneered new techniques in caring for kids with spinal deformities and optimal care of children with fractures.

Key Findings

  • We have lead international multi-center studies on the best treatment of children with early onset scoliosis. Our findings have pioneered the use of various growth-friendly spinal instrumentation to avoid fusion in young children.
  • We have lead multi-center studies amongst the nation’s top medical centers on adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). We have found the safest and most effective ways to care for children with AIS and to allow them to return to sports and activities of daily living in the most rapid fashion.
  • We are currently finishing a study on spondylolysis and the ability to return to sports with various treatments.
  • Supracondylar humerus fractures are one of the most common fractures in children that require surgery. Our center has performed numerous sentinel studies in the surgical treatment of supracondylar humerus fractures in children.
