Dr. Illingworth received his undergraduate degree from the University of Arizona and went on to get his medical degree from the University of Tennessee. He completed a two-year research fellowship at the prestigious University of Pittsburgh Department of Orthopaedics. During that time, his research focused on three-dimensional modeling and kinematics of the knee after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. He went on to complete his internship and orthopedic residency at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine where he developed his passion for pediatric spinal deformity under the mentorship of Dr. Keith Gabriel. He completed his advanced training in pediatrics and pediatric spinal deformity at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles under the mentorship of Drs. Tolo, Skaggs and Andras. Dr. Illingworth is board certified by American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Illingworth has presented and lectured at national and international meetings on orthopedic surgery, including pediatric spine surgery. He has published over 20 peer reviewed articles in orthopedic surgery and has presented over 20 papers at national and international meetings.
Dr. Illingworth specializes in the non-operative and operative care of pediatric patients with complex spinal deformities. In addition to the care of pediatric spine patients, Dr. Illingworth is the director of the Orthopedic Trauma program at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and has a special interest in pediatric skeletal trauma in patients who have reached or are near skeletal maturity.
