Research Compliance
Research Compliance provides comprehensive guidance to the research community and oversight throughout Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to ensure the responsible conduct of research. This includes the development of training and education; auditing and monitoring; and the distribution of policies, procedures and standards of conduct that promote adherence to applicable laws, regulations and institutional policies.
Conflicts of Interest in Research
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles reviews and manages conflicts of interest (COI) to protect the integrity of our research and ensure participants make an informed decision prior to joining research.
Research requirements for disclosing external interests and COI management
Researchers and individuals responsible for the design, conduct or reporting of research—or those serving on institutional research review committees—are required to do the following:
- Disclosure: Complete a Conflicts of Interest (COI) Disclosure electronically through https://disclose.usc.edu/diSClose/sd/PublicCustomLayouts/SSO/Selection at least once a year or within 30 days of any new significant financial interest. The reporting period for this annual disclosure includes any external interests you have held in the past 12 months. However, you should notify us regarding any potential COI in relationship to your research, role or responsibilities. Disclosures will be reviewed by the Office of Compliance and Privacy and sent to the Conflict of Interest in Research Committee (COIRC) for review, if required.
- CITI training: Complete training in conflicts of interest through the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) to meet educational requirements. Please note that conflict of interest training must be renewed every four years.
- Research COI policies: Review COMP-21 Conflict of Interest in Research: Policy & Procedure. All COI-related policies are available through the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles intranet.
Public Inquiries and Information About Financial COI
Public requests for information regarding significant financial interests of key or senior research investigators on projects funded by the Public Health Service or the National Institutes of Health determined to be financial conflicts of interest can be made by submitting a request to compliance@chla.usc.edu or by calling 323-361-2302.
