The Endocrinology Ambassadors of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles are a growing community of grateful patient families -- moms, dads, children, siblings, grandparents and friends -- committed to working together to help ensure that children and families living with endocrine disorders receive world-class pediatric care. As one of the highest ranking Endocrinology Centers in the nation and the largest on the West Coast, the Center for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism provides outstanding clinical care, while conducting basic and clinical research and educating the next generation of pediatric endocrinologists through its renowned Endocrinology Fellowship Program.
Endo Ambassadors are dedicated to promoting awareness and raising critical funds for the Center’s specialists -- nurse educators, dietitians and social workers -- who, with our outstanding physicians, care for more than 12,000 children each year. The medical needs of our children range from type 1 diabetes and life threatening adrenal disorders to issues of puberty, growth, and the dual challenges of obesity and diabetes.
The Center is known for collaborating with experts in other divisions to treat patients with complex diagnoses. Our doctors work with children recovering from the effects of chemotherapy on the endocrine system, for example, or provide treatment for growth disorders resulting from spinal surgery.
The Endo Ambassadors inaugural project will raise funds to expand the services of dedicated psychologists, increasing the availability of psychological care to all patients and families served by the Center for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism.
Supportive psychological care is an essential part of treating children with chronic conditions like diabetes, adrenal disorders and thyroid issues. Our embedded psychologists will give them and their families the tools to cope with challenges they face each day, guiding them to lead full and healthy lives now and in the future. The Endo Ambassadors support the Center's mission to empower patients to become advocates for their care as they transition from childhood to adulthood.
Endo Ambassadors has committed to raising $150,000 in 2015 to pilot this offering to CHLA patients and families.
