Studies to Characterize COVID-19 Spread
Mimi Precit, PhD, Postdoctoral Researcher, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
To fight a disease that is affecting the entire world, the disease must be better understood. Scientists and clinicians need data about the disease spectrum, optimal sample types for testing, and duration of virus shedding. Unfortunately, this type of information is quite limited in pediatric patients.
To address these knowledge gaps, Mimi Precit, PhD, and colleagues under the mentorship of Jennifer Dien Bard, PhD, will be using a combined retrospective and prospective study approach to evaluate and test various specimen types for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA from confirmed COVID-19-positive pediatric patients at CHLA, and in tandem assess the clinical course of care in these patients.
