The University of Southern California’s (USC’s) athletic director Patrick “Pat” Haden was fined $25,000 and reprimanded by the Pac-12 for his actions in the third quarter of the Trojans’ 13-10 win against Stanford on Saturday, Sept. 6. A few days later, Pat took to Twitter and posted this message to his followers:

Reacting to Pat’s note, his fans retweeted his message in support of him. However, Pac-12 policy prevents Pat’s request from being honored; his $25,000 fine will instead go to the conference’s postgraduate scholarship fund. So Pat has committed to making a personal $25,000 donation to CHLA on behalf of autism research. The donation prompted a CHLA supporter to create a CHLA Online Fundraising Page in Pat’s honor, challenging Pat’s fans to match his gift. Since Wednesday afternoon, the page has received more than $8,100.
