TEEN POWER®

TEEN POWER® is a psychoeducational and skills-based intervention that includes interactive activities and discussion. Groups are offered for school-age children (ages 6-11) and adolescents (ages 12-18) with Type 1 diabetes to address their distinct needs. Each school-age group series consists of six weekly sessions. Teen group series include 10 weekly sessions.

TEEN POWER also offers parallel groups for parents, guardians and siblings. Groups are provided by an interdisciplinary diabetes team at CHLA representing behavioral health, occupational therapy, medical and dietary specialists. Topics include effective child-parent communication, coping strategies, stress, depression and diabetes burnout.

TEEN POWER is now being offered VIRTUALLY to comply with safer-at-home orders using a HIPAA-compliant virtual communication platform.

TEEN POWER is open to any patient with Medi-Cal who meets criteria regardless of where they receive routine diabetes care, as well as patients with commercial insurance who receive routine diabetes care at CHLA.
