Division of Rheumatology

 How to Reach Us

Our Division is helping to set the standard in the diagnosis and care of children with rheumatic diseases. As one of the first groups in the nation to develop a program to treat children with rheumatic diseases, we serve as a major referral center for Southern California, Nevada and Arizona. Division faculty operate a busy satellite unit at Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach. Each year, our multidisciplinary team logs approximately 6,500 patient visits (over 5,000 outpatient visits) per year.

    COMMONLY TREATED CONDITIONS
The Division treats inflammatory and non-inflammatory rheumatic diseases, including:

    •  Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis
    •  Systemic lupus erythematosus
    •  Dermatomyositis
    •  Scleroderma
    •  Vasculitis

In addition, the Division maintains a focused complement of clinical research, designed to realize long-term benefits for children with airway disorders.

    •  Access to full radiological and laboratory testing on campus
    •  Psychosocial function assessment and assistance
    •  Child and family education and goal setting
    •  Development of a comprehensive treatment plan, including specialized consultative services
    •  Prompt management of acute crises
    •  Referral for financial assistance, community services, vocational rehabilitation and support
    •  Facilitating assistance with educational needs of our patients, helping to assist with I.E.P.
