Children's Hospital Los Angeles is ranked among the top hospitals in the nation for gastroenterology care on the U.S. News & World Report Best Children's Hospitals List. Our pediatric gastroenterologists use the latest diagnostic techniques and technology to provide care for hundreds of children each year.
Physician-researchers in the Division of Gastroenterology and Nutrition actively conduct research in two laboratories to improve care for children with gastrointestinal issues. We also offer patients access to the latest clinical trials through our participation in national research consortia and registries, including:
- DEVELOP: An Inflammatory Bowel DisEase Multicenter, ProspectiVE, LOng-term Registry of Pediatric Patients
- SECURE: A Non-Interventional Long-term Post-Marketing Registry of Patients Treated with Certolizumab Pegol (Cimzia®) for Crohn's Disease
The Division takes a comprehensive approach to caring for patients with gastrointestinal, liver and nutritional disorders. Clinical services include a complete nutrition support service and management of intestinal failure, and liver and intestinal transplantation.
Commonly treated disorders treated include such complex gastrointestinal diseases as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, allergic enteropathy, celiac disease, pancreatitis, acute and chronic liver diseases, and intestinal failure and short bowel syndrome. We also treat children with digestive, liver or nutritional disorders that result from other diseases.

RESEARCH
Children's Hospital Los Angeles is presently one of the fourteen pediatric centers in North America selected to be a Children's Liver Research Center.
Our clinical research projects focus on gastrointestinal disorders associated with autism, screening and diagnosis of celiac disease, treatment basic mechanisms of disease causation and diagnosis and management of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), and acute and chronic childhood liver diseases.
The Division also participates in research and clinical drug trials related to liver and intestinal transplant, parental nutrition associated liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, protein-losing enteropathy, and intestinal failure and childhood nutritional deficiencies.

EXPERT STAFF
Among our staff are board-certified pediatric gastroenterologists, an enterostomal therapist, a nurse practitioner, a clinical nurse specialist, dietitians and various other personnel organized into multidisciplinary teams for gastroenterology, nutrition support, and liver and intestinal transplantation.
