General Information
- We care for a very diverse group of patients, with a range of ages, cultures, and social backgrounds.
- House staff are exposed to numerous pediatric illnesses, from tertiary care to routine "bread and butter" general pediatrics.
- Residents experience and learn from patients and illnesses that other individuals only read about.
- As a regional referral center residents are exposed to the same disease in a variety of presentations.
- Inexpensive hospital-owned housing is available nearby for those who are interested.
- $135-$150 in meals are provided for each four-week block while on call at the hospital.
- Interns receive a book stipend at the start of training.
- There is a holiday party in December and an "end-of- the-year" party in June, with full overnight coverage for all house staff.
- Residents receive 4 weeks of vacation each year (5 weeks during the PL-1 year) with an additional 4-5 days off over the winter holidays.
- There is a two day overnight intern retreat in February and one day PL-2 and PL-3 retreats.
- We have a state-of-the-art electronic medical record system for order-entry, documentation and laboratory results.
- Residents receive membership to the American Academy of Pediatrics and subscriptions to Pediatrics, Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, and Pediatrics in Review.
- There is 24-hour access both on and off campus to pediatric library resources and database subscriptions (e.g., Up-to- Date, Ovid Online, etc.).
Hospital Details
- There is a superb ancillary staff, which includes pediatric- trained nurses, child life specialists, nutritionists, social workers, clinical care coordinators, chaplains and more
- There are dedicated phlebotomy and IV teams.

Educational Program
- There is both a general pediatric mentorship program for all residents and an additional subspecialty mentorship/advisor program for any interested house staff
- Our graduates routinely let us know how much they appreciate their training, and how well prepared they are for clinical practice
- House staff have 10 four-week elective blocks, as well as additional optional one-week elective opportunities during their three years, providing tremendous flexibility and a wealth of learning possibilities, including off-site and international experiences
- Educational opportunities are varied allowing for all types of learners (e.g., morning report, senior resident rounds, noon conferences, OSCEs, interpersonal skills sessions, etc.)
- There are opportunities to learn from world-renowned specialists on a daily basis.
- There are numerous opportunities to teach (e.g., case conference, continuity clinic conferences, medical students, etc.).
- Professional development (including instruction on interpersonal skills, professionalism, teaching, etc.) is part of the residency curriculum.
- You receive training in various procedural skills (e.g., lumbar punctures, intravenous line placement, etc.).
- Clinical-free selectives during the PL-1 and PL-3 years of training allowing time to attend to various administrative requirements.
- The program is designed for the residents and seeks their input on all major decisions.
- We provide a free 3-week Board Review course for all of our residents .
- We have a 97% pass rate on the Pediatric Board certifying exam over the past eleven years.
Inpatient Experience
- Faculty write all post-call notes on the general wards.
Outpatient Experience
- Our continuity clinic has a resident-to-faculty preceptor ratio of 2.5:1.
- We have full-time interpreters, nutritionists, and psychologists in continuity clinic.
- 70% of all continuity visits are general pediatric.
