Art Therapy InternshipThe Mark Taper-Johnny Mercer Artists Program at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, founded in 1991, serves patients and their families in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Our hospital offers an Expressive Arts Therapy Internship program which provides interns with a broad experience base and a general exposure to the creative and expressive arts in a medical setting. Art and music therapists collaborate with the entire treatment team, including medical staff and other service providers in the Family-Centered Care Support Services Division. Child Life TrainingThe Child Life Internship Program provides students with a wide range of learning opportunities. Interns have the opportunity to receive hands-on experience and supervision in both inpatient and outpatient areas where Child Life Specialists support patients and families. In addition, interns also increase their skills through weekly seminars and relevant assignments. Nutrition TrainingThrough the USC University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, we offer a Dietetic Internship which teaches dietitians how to work with children with disabilities. Interns develop skills and insights into the delivery of service and the creation, implementation and evaluation of policies in maternal and child health. Pastoral EducationAs a pediatric leader, the hospital offers Clinical Pastoral Education Interns the opportunity to work with a varied population of children, adolescents and their families. Chaplain interns benefit from the learning atmosphere of a teaching institution with training programs for physicians, nurses and other professionals. Students develop both professional pastoral identity and pastoral expertise. Pharmacy TrainingPrescribing medications for a young person is a science in and of itself. Our hospital provides a significant contribution to the treatment of children through its fourth-year pediatric Pharmacy Clerkship offered to 4th year University of Southern California School of Pharmacy students. During the six-week rotation, students learn about medications prescribed for children and their applications, including: Psychology Training ProgramsThe faculty of our hospital's Mental Health Program has developed the second-largest training program within Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Our Psychology Training Programs including education for future: 1) Marriage and Family Therapists, 2) Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship, 3) Psychology Predoctoral Internship, 4) Social Work Students. Rehabilitation Training ProgramThe Rehabilitation Services Department contracts with several universities to provide student internships in the fields of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech pathology. Rehabilitation Student Interns are exposed to a diverse patient population in a variety of care settings including acute, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient rehabilitation, and specialty care clinics. Respiratory Care ResidencyTo take care of acutely ill and injured children in today’s increasingly complex technological environment, new graduates from our Respiratory Care Residency Program acquire extended clinical experiences in neonatal and pediatrics with appropriate support systems for a successful transition from respiratory student to a professional Respiratory Care Provider. Social Work InternshipOur Social Work Internship offers second-year MSW students the opportunity to learn medical social work from highly-skilled, dedicated clinicians. Interns accepted into the program participate in all aspects of social work at the hospital, following patients and families from diagnosis of a medical condition through discharge, home care and end-of-life interventions. |
