D. Brent Polk, MD

D. Brent Polk, MD, is chair of the Department of Pediatrics and vice president of Academic Affairs at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and chair of Pediatrics and vice dean for Clinical Affairs (Children’s Hospital Los Angeles) at Keck Medicine of the University of Southern California. A distinguished researcher and clinician, Dr. Polk serves as a professor of Pediatrics at Keck Medicine. As Chair of Pediatrics, he is responsible for the department’s educational, research and service missions, and oversees faculty working at Children’s Hospital and Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center. 

Dr. Polk previously served as chief of the D. Brent Polk Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, director of the Digestive Disease Research Center and a tenured professor of Pediatrics and Cell and Developmental Biology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.  He received a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry from Ouachita University in Arkadelphia, Ark., and his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

His partner, Terry Carr-Hall, is a native Californian who grew up in the Sierra Nevada Foothills. In 1993, he and Brent formed Renaissance Food Group LLC, opening Provence Breads & Café in Nashville, Tenn. Terry has played an active role in support and fund raising for Nashville Cares, along with many other charitable organizations. He was a founder of Generous Helpings, bringing Nashville restaurants and the community together to feed the homeless.
