Specialty Services We Offer

Occupational Therapy Settings

Our occupational therapists evaluate and treat children in the Acute, Rehab, and Outpatient settings.  Our approach is holistic, meaning the therapist looks at each child in relation to their natural environment in order to determine their needs and how to best address them.  The ultimate goal of therapy is engaging the family to help incorporate the skills the child learns into his or her daily life.

Acute Inpatients

Acute inpatient therapists specialize in treating children with feeding disorders, medically fragile children, and high-risk infants.  They also provide lactation consultations.

Rehab Inpatients

Therapists on the inpatient rehab unit help children who are recovering from serious injuries or illnesses regain their independence in all areas of daily life.  The therapists use meaningful activities, such as cooking, crafts, and specialized groups to engage the children, and to facilitate their physical, cognitive and social development.

Outpatients

Outpatient therapists specialize in the evaluation and treatment of infants and children with feeding and swallowing disorders, developmental delay, and orthopedic issues (such as brachial plexus palsy and hand injuries), as well as a variety of other diagnoses.

Before Starting Therapy

To initiate occupational therapy your child must receive an occupational therapy referral from his/her pediatrician or specialist.  Upon receiving the referral and obtaining the appropriate authorization, our department will contact you to make an appointment for an evaluation. Children’s Hospital accepts a variety of insurances including CCS (California Children’s Services), HMO, PPO, Medi-Cal, and referrals from Regional Center.
