THE CENTER FOR STRENGTHENING YOUTH PREVENTION PARADIGMS:

  • Provides free capacity building assistance (CBA) services to mobilize communities in the Western Region of the United States around HIV prevention for youth.
  • Helps community-based organizations and coalitions to increase community access to and utilization of HIV prevention services young gay men and transgender youth, with an emphasis on youth of color.
  • Is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and housed in the Division of Adolescent Medicine at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION MODEL

Connections for Youth, a community mobilization model adapted from Connect to Protect®: Partnerships for Youth Prevention Interventions, provides the basis for CBA services.  Additional information about the model is located on the description page.

REQUEST CBA SERVICES

Your agency or coalition may request CBA services from the SYPP Center by contacting the CBA Coordinator or by visiting CDC's CRIS system.

Our new resource, The Role of Social Determinants of Health & HIV, is available as a downloadable PDF. It is designed to help HIV service providers and community planners better understand the multiple factors that influence HIV risk.

Third Thursdays Webinar

Our next webinar will be held on Thursday, June 21, from 11 a.m. - noon PDT. Guest presenters from Human Rights Watch will be discussing their new report on condoms as evidence of prostitution. Registration will be available in early June.

Technical Consultation with Dr. Johanna Olson

Johanna Olson, MD, an expert in transgender medical care for youth and adolescents, will host a technical consultation webinar on Wednesday, June 25, from 10:30 a.m. – noon PST. The topic will be blockers, and the talk is geared toward medical providers.

Registration will be available in mid-June.
