Physical therapists (PT) are health care professionals who provide care to individuals to develop, maintain, and restore maximum movement and function throughout life. This includes providing treatment when movement and function are limited by injury, disease or environmental factors.

Physical therapists evaluate and diagnose movement dysfunction by examining each individual, then developing a plan using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability.

Our physical therapists evaluate and treat children from the ages of 0-21 in the acute, rehabilitation, and outpatient settings.

Physical therapists promote holistic and family-centered care through interdisciplinary consultation and collaboration with family members, caregivers, educators and medical professionals.

Intervention is optimized by assessing each child and family’s circumstances to determine individual needs.

The primary goals are having the child return to their prior level of function and engage in meaningful activities to the child and family.

Physical Therapy Care Settings

Acute Care
In the acute setting, physical therapists specialize in treating medically fragile children staying in the hospital. These include high-risk infants, post-surgical patients, and children with a variety of diagnoses.

Rehabilitation
In the rehabilitation setting, physical therapists specialize in facilitating independence while the child is recovering from a serious accident, such as spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, or serious illness including cancer, rheumatologic diseases, and infections. Physical therapy is an integral component of the intensive rehabilitation program while staying in the hospital.

Outpatient Care
Outpatient physical therapists treat children from the community and specialize in the evaluation and treatment of orthopedic, neurological, developmental musculoskeletal disorders, rheumatologic diseases, and wound care.
