Visit From Haiti

Our hospital was excited to receive a visit on May 7, 2010, from a delegation of Haitian government officials. Haitian Minister of Health, Dr. Alex Larsen and delegation toured our New Patient Tower (currently under construction).  The delegation met with healthcare leaders at Childrens Hospital to discuss the reconstruction of Haiti’s healthcare system devastated by the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck the impoverished country on January 12.

Dr. Henri Ford, Surgeon in Chief and native of Haiti is playing a key role in the rebuilding of Haiti’s healthcare system.  Dr. Ford arrived in Haiti four days following the earthquake and performed numerous life-saving surgeries on both children and adults, and he was instrumental in establishing one of the first field hospitals following the devastation.

During their visit, the delegation will also meet members of the two teams from Childrens Hospital that have provided medical care to Haitian earthquake victims.  A third team is scheduled to leave for Haiti May 17.  Dr. Ford, members of the delegation and members from the two teams are available for interviews and/or photo opportunities.

Children's Hospital Los Angeles' Contributions to Medical Care in Haiti

In light of the trips taken by doctors and nurses from our hospital to provide medical relief efforts to Haitian earthquake victims, this visit further deepens the relationship between our hospital and the island nation.

During their visits, our staff of doctors and nurses, worked closely with national agencies and Project Medishare in order to ensure that our efforts were coordinated in providing medical intervention for children injured in the January 12th earthquake.
