The Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC) along with our hospital's Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine invite applications for a full-time faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor Level for the Division of Biochemical Genetics and Special Chemistry.
Responsibilities/Outcomes
The successful candidate will:
- Interpret biochemical and special chemistry tests and disseminate results in a timely manner
- Develop new technology and methods to maintain current pace with industry practices
- Initiate and lead clinical research
- Supervise the delivery of division services
- Develop and conduct quality control programs including quality assurance, quality control, and performance improvement
- Assist in division management issues such as personnel management and budget control
- Participate in policy and procedure development and implementation, as well as new instrument implementation and evaluation
- Work very closely with clinicians in the Department of Medical Genetics
- nteract with our referring physicians and providers as part of our premier outreach program
- Maintain and expand research grants and contracts including the State of California
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate must have a MD degree or doctoral degree in Biochemistry, Clinical Chemistry or related science and must be certified in “Clinical Biochemical Genetics” by the American Board of Medical Genetics. Three to four years laboratory experience dealing with inborn errors of metabolism with two years of administrative experience preferred. The candidate will have excellent understanding of advanced technologies in lab diagnosis (enzymology, HPLC, TLC, GC-MS, tandem MS/MS, and other cutting edge technologies).

In a uniquely collaborative and interactive relationship, the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine serves many clinical specialties, with significant involvement in medical genetics, transplantation, neural tumor, hematology/oncology, digestive diseases, and pediatric surgery services.
The Department offers molecular diagnostics, genomics, cytogenetics, immunohistochemistry, electron microscopy, and in-situ hybridization for our hospital as well as for its outreach patients.
