PEDIATRIC GRAND ROUNDS

Participants should be able to:

1. Explain the benefits of living donor versus deceased donor transplantation.
2. Identify the difference between acute rejection and chronic rejection and how the management differs.
3. Summarize how specific viral infections may affect a renal transplant recipient and how they are managed.

The Basic Pediatric EKG Rhythm Strip Interpretation course is designed to review basic pediatric EKG rhythm strips, discuss treatment priorities, and practice EKG strip interpretation.

The Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) is a 16-hour course presented by the Emergency Nurses Association, designed to provide core level pediatric knowledge and psychomotor skills associated with the delivery of professional nursing care to the pediatric patient.  Content is delivered through lectures and skills stations.  Upon successful completion of the course, each participant will receive a verification card.  Expiration of verification card will occur four years from the first day of the month in which the card was issued.  Only Registered Nurses will be issued certification cards.

At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:

1. Identify signs and symptoms of both victim and bully behavior.
2. Determine the appropriate steps for the medical practitioner to take to triage a patient who is being victimized.
3. Understand the cyclical nature of the bully-victim paradigm.

ADOLESCENT ROUNDS

At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:

1. Understand the normal changes in sleep patterns during adolescence.
2. Know the basic elements of a sleep history and what additional tools can be used.
3. Recognize the common sleep disorders in adolescents.

The Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) is a 16-hour course presented by the Emergency Nurses Association, designed to provide the learner with cognitive knowledge and psychomotor skills in trauma nursing.  Content is delivered through lectures and skills stations.  Upon successful completion of the course (written and skills exams), each participant will receive a verification card.  Expiration of verification card will occur four years from the first day of the month in which the card was issued.  Only Registered Nurses will be issued certification cards.

The two-day APHON Chemo/Biotherapy Provider Course is designed to provide the RN/LVN with the knowledge base needed to safely care for children and adolescents receiving chemotherapy.  Those who take the course and pass on examination will be issue a card by APHON that says they have successfully met the APHON National Standards for being trained to administer chemotherapy and biotherapy to pediatric patients.

The Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) two-day course is designed for physicians, registered nurses, medical students, paramedics, and respiratory therapists working in acute care hospital settings.  This course teaches the recognition and management of cardiac arrest, shock, and resuscitation to infants and children.  This PALS Course is based upon the recommendations set by the American Heart Association.
