As the only Center of Clinical Excellence in California, participation in this national network allows us to provide leading-edge care, while advancing innovative research in order to change the future for children with autism. DiagnosisDiagnosing autism and autism spectrum disorders is a complex process that requires special expertise, and visits to several providers in several locations. Children’s Hospital offers a comprehensive assessment that brings together an experienced multispecialty team in one location to make diagnosis easy. Assessments are offered at the Boone Fetter Clinic and the USC Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD).Through the Autism Warm Phone Line, our nurse care manager helps families begin the diagnosis process and move through the steps that follow. Over a series of visits, our team conducts a range of assessments to understand each child’s unique symptoms. The team then meets again for a detailed discussion to determine a diagnosis. Each family is given a comprehensive report, including information about the specific diagnosis and a follow-up care plan.
