"My son was treated at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in December 2005.

He had a rare heart condition that required heart surgery and about 4 days on the ECMO Machine.

Like many parents, whose children are undergoing lifesaving procedures, I donated blood and platelets. I got to see my son use up my donated blood and platelets, but I also got to see him use many units from anonymous donors, and for that I was very grateful. If there had been a name and phone on those units, I would have personally called those donors to thank them.

So, on behalf of the children and the parents of children treated at Childrens Hospital that have received blood from anonymous donors, I want to say to you thank you. Thank you for being a part on giving our children a chance of life.

Parents whose children are undergoing lifesaving procedures have so much to worry about, and because of donors like you, these parents don’t have to worry about their child’s procedure being cancelled or postpone because of the lack of blood donations.

Although, there are times like with our son Matthew, where the child loses their battle with their life threatening condition, at least I know, that because of the anonymous donor like you, he was given a chance of life."
