Money raised by the Nautica Malibu Triathlon goes to the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ Pediatric Cancer Research Program, which is dedicated to curing and preventing childhood cancers. The program provides groundbreaking treatments and therapies for children with some of the most serious and life-threatening forms of cancers.
In addition to cheering the participants on, friends, family and fans of the Nautica Malibu Triathlon enjoy games in the Fun Zone and watch little competitors take on the Nautica Kids Run and Tot Trot. 2013 Nautica Malibu Triathlon
The 2013 Nautica Malibu Triathlon presented by Equinox raised over $1,088,000 for Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
5,500 athletes swam, biked and ran in the 27th annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon presented by Equinox, raising over $1.08 million for Children's Hospital Los Angeles' Pediatric Cancer Research program. Celebrities, triathletes and corporate teams raced side-by-side on the sands and in the waters of Malibu, cheered on by supportive crowds, to benefit this worthy cause.
Hollywood's elite lent their support with star athletes including Heather Tom, who took first in the celebrity female division with a time of 1:54:19, and Alec Musser, who took first in the celebrity male division with a time of 1:34:46. Team "For the Kids" (Rebecca Soni, Eric Etebari, Elton Lewis) won the Celebrity Mixed Relay Division with a time of 1:27:05.
Also competing in the Celebrity Division were Colin Egglesfield, Jillian Michaels, James Marsden, Jon Cryer, Mark Feuerstein, Max Greenfield, Phillip Palmer, Sherriff Lee Baca and Ted Stryker, to name a few. Bret Michaels, musician and reality television personality, kicked off the event by singing the National Anthem. Michaels also charmed the crowd when he sang "Every Rose Has Its Thorn." American radio and television host Billy Bush presented race awards.
Evan Kraus was the overall victor of the triathlon, finishing the half-mile swim, 18 mile bicycle ride and four mile run in 1:20:52. Laurel Wassner won the female division with a time of 1:29:31.
