A wholly owned subsidiary of News Corp., Fox Entertainment Group owns a range of film studios and cable and direct broadcast satellite television properties, including 20th CenturyFox Film Corp., Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox News Channel and DirecTV, among others. “Children's Hospital Los Angeles has an extraordinary reputation in effectively promoting the health and wellness of children here locally and throughout the world,” says Peter Chernin, president and COO of News Corp. “Fox’s contribution will enable Children's Hospital to continue providing much-needed treatment, support and education to seriously ill children and their families, and will further important research that advances the early diagnosis and prevention of future childhood diseases.” Fox has a long history of supporting Children's Hospital. Since 1985, Fox companies have given more than $200,000 to the hospital, supporting such projects as the Pediatric AIDS Project Fund and the Hematology and Oncology Psychosocial and Education (HOPE) Program. In addition, Mr. Chernin and News Corp. Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch both have supported the hospital through personal donations. “We are extremely grateful to the people at Fox Entertainment Group for their support over the years, and for this tremendously generous gift,” says Richard D. Cordova, FACHE, president and CEO of Children's Hospital Los Angeles. “By supporting the new building, Fox is helping to ensure that we can continue to provide the highest quality care and treatment for seriously ill and injured children far into the future.” The Fox gift is the latest in a series of major gifts to the building by corporate America’s entertainment companies. In 2006, The Walt Disney Company Foundation gave $5 million for the building. HBO, owned by Time Warner, also announced a $5 million gift in 2007. Supporting Children's Hospital is an important way for the entertainment industry in Los Angeles to give back to the community and to children and families, says Mr. Chernin. “We rely on the people of Los Angeles to help us create and deliver entertainment experiences around the world,” he explains. “Supporting the development of an institution like Children's Hospital is not only our responsibility, but in many ways, it also serves as an investment in our own future success.” In recognition of Fox’s gift, the elevator lobby in the new building will be named the “Fox Elevator Lobby.” In addition to its support for Children's Hospital, Fox contributes to a wide variety of organizations. It is particularly supportive of organizations that promote education, health care and research, as well as those that work on behalf of underserved communities. When it opens, the new building will be a state-of-the-art, 460,000-squarefoot, 317-bed inpatient facility. It will house one of the finest medical and surgical environments for seriously ill and injured children in the United States, and it will be a model of family-centered care, in which children and families can heal and learn together. |
