Over time, our hospital has become "the referral center" for the most seriously ill and critically injured children in Southern California.
What this means for patients though is that we are almost always at or near capacity in acute care units.
Our new facility will:
- Increase overall capacity to 317 beds, including 120 beds dedicated to intensive care
- Expand Emergency Department services with 30 private exam rooms in The Maurice Marciano Family Foundation Emergency Department and Trauma Center at a time when many Emergency Departments throughout Los Angeles County have closed
- Include state-of-the-art imaging facilities that are more easily accessed by patients with critical care needs than our current hospital facility
- Expand beds in The Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Foundation Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit to help meet a growing need for these advanced services. Currently, about 900 patients are admitted each year, including children with the most complex diseases of the heart and lung
Expansions in Key Units
Analysis of our current needs for expanded intensive care for children resulted in our designing expansions in key units into our new facility.
This expansion includes adding beds in the following units:
