In keeping with our mission of providing quality healthcare for children, Children's Hospital Los Angeles actively collaborates with government agencies at the local, regional and national levels. 


Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)
AHRQ is a federal agency committed to improve the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of health care for all Americans. The health services research arm of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), complementing the biomedical research mission of its sister agency, the National Institutes of Health.  It is home to research centers that specialize in major areas of health care research (Quality improvement and patient safety; Outcomes and effectiveness of care; Clinical practice and technology assessment; Health care organization and delivery systems; Primary care; and Health care costs and sources of payment). It is a major source of funding and technical assistance for health services research and research training at leading U.S. universities and other institutions. It also serves as a science partner, working with the public and private sectors to build the knowledge base for what works—and does not work—in health and health care and to translate this knowledge into everyday practice and policymaking. The hospital began using the AHRQ's Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture in 2008.


California Children’s Services (CCS)
California Children's Services is a state program for children with certain diseases or health problems. Through this program, children up to 21 years old can get the health care and services they need. CCS will connect patients with doctors and trained health care people who know how to care for children with special health care needs.  Our hospital is a dedicated CCS care provider.

California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS)
DHCS is a state agency whose mission is to protect and promote the health status of Californians through the financing and delivery of individual health care services. The DHCS finances and administers a number of individual health care service delivery programs, including the California Medical Assistance Program (Medi-Cal).


California Department of Public Health (CDPH)
The California Department of Public Health is a state agency dedicated to optimizing the health and well-being of the people in California. CDPH delivers Ten Essential Public Health Services directly and/or through strong and effective partnerships:

  • Monitoring health status to identify community health problems including health disparities
  • Detecting and investigating health problems and health hazards in the community
  • Informing, educating, and empowering people and organizations to adopt healthy behaviors to enhance health status
  • Partnering with communities and organizations to identify and solve health problems and to respond to public health emergencies
  • Developing and implementing public health interventions and best practices that support individual and community health efforts and increase healthy outcomes
  • Enforcing laws and regulations that protect health and ensure safety
  • Linking people to needed personal health services and ensuring the provision of population-based health services
  • Assuring a competent public health workforce and effective public health leadership
  • Evaluating effectiveness, accessibility, and quality of public health services, strategies, and programs
  • Researching for insights and innovative solutions to public health problems


Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is a federal agency that administers Medicare, Medicaid, and the State Children's Health Insurance Program. 


Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD)
OSHPD administers programs that endeavor to implement the vision of "Equitable Healthcare Accessibility for California."  It is a state agency that manages:

  • Facilities development (building department for hospitals)
  • Cal-Mortgage loan insurance (nonprofit facility development)
  • Healthcare workforce development (identifying and addressing workforce needs)
  • Healthcare information (collecting data and distributing information on health and healthcare)
