Lawrence L. Foust, JD, LLM, MBA
Lawrence L. Foust, J.D., LL.M., MBA, has been senior vice president and general counsel since July 14, 2008. Mr. Foust brings a wealth of pertinent legal experience to his assignment, working for managed care companies, hospitals and healthcare systems and large physician groups, as well as experience in joint ventures. Mr. Foust was associated with the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan prior to his appointment. Mr. Foust has provided legal services for the health care industry for more than 29 years in academic, in-house and private practice settings, including service with the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, as a shareholder in the Houston office of Jenkens & Gilchrist and as associate general counsel for the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word of Houston, now known as CHRISTUS Health. Mr. Foust has served on the Audit Committee of U.T. Physicians, the physician practice management organization for the faculty physicians of the University of Texas Health Science Center. He also has served as a special internal corporate governance investigator, as an arbitrator and as an expert witness in federal district court. In 2002, Mr. Foust became one of the first attorneys in Texas to be recognized as a specialist in health law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Mr. Foust was listed among "America's Leading Business Lawyers" by Chambers in 2005 and 2006. He is listed in both Marquis “Who’s Who in America” and “Who’s Who in American Law.” Mr. Foust is the author of numerous publications, including, book chapters and articles, and he is frequently invited to address the American Health Lawyers Association. His presentations and publications cover various topics including negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, Medicare and Medicaid and managed care. Mr. Foust graduated magna cum laude and with honors from Duke University in 1975. He received a J.D. degree (1978) and a master’s degree in law (1980) from the University of Virginia School of Law. Mr. Foust received an MBA from the University of St. Thomas in 1996. Mr. Foust has been a fellow at the University of Virginia School of Law and the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He has been licensed to practice law in Virginia since 1978, in Texas since 1980 and in California since 2006. |
