Trauma Patient Care

Acute Injury Patient Care

The Trauma Program’s well-organized system of care tracks patients at every stage – from pre-hospital care through acute care, rehabilitation and follow-ups. Approximately 65% of all trauma patients treated at Children's Hospital Los Angeles received their injuries from an incident with a vehicle – as a passenger, pedestrian, bicyclist, or (rarely) as a young driver. Falls account for many traumatic injuries as well. Surgeons and Nurse Practitioners with expertise in treating traumatic injuries are available 24 hours per day to assess and treat trauma patients admitted to the hospital in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team that provides support for the entire family.
