Hugo Santos

Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer

Hugo Santos began his assignment as vice president and chief human resources officer at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles on Dec. 10, 2007.
 
 Prior to his appointment at Childrens Hospital, Mr. Santos had been vice president of human resources at Tanox Corporation, Houston, Texas, a biopharmaceutical company, where he was responsible for building a global human resources function, including improving organizational effectiveness, developing and implementing compensation strategies, as well as for employee and leadership development.

Mr. Santos was vice president and partner with HR Drivers Consulting Group, Los Altos, Calif., from 2000 to 2004, providing human resources services to healthcare, biotechnology, high technology and financial institutions. His work within its human capital practice focused on implementing human resources processes, systems and metrics to build effective management teams.

He has also been vice president human resources at JNI Corporation, San Diego, Calif., a designer and supplier of enterprise storage connectivity products with employees throughout the United States, Europe, Japan and Singapore; and a director with Nokia Internet Communications, a division of Nokia Corporation, Mt. View, California.

Mr. Santos was vice president, human resources, with Applied Biosystems, Foster City, Calif., from 1994 to 2000, with responsibilities for building a global human resources function and management team, including improving organizational effectiveness, developing and implementing compensation strategies, establishing new human resources practices and improving labor and employee communication process.

He was director, human resources, at National Semiconductor, Santa Clara, Calif., from 1984 to 1994, where he implemented a complete human resources program and change process to transform the company into a world-class manufacturing and supply change organization.

He is the author of a business case for re-engineering the human resources function.

Mr. Santos received a bachelor’s degree in labor relations from Pace University, New York, N.Y., and he graduated from the Executive Management Development Program at Stanford University.
