The final beam for the Marion and John E. Anderson Pavilion was lifted into place above the skyline of Los Angeles during a celebration ceremony on March 9, 2008. Painted in the hospital's rainbow colors, the beam was signed by thousands of patients and staff members, topped with an American flag and an evergreen tree to symbolize growth and good luck. Walter W. Noce, Jr., then the hospital’s chief executive officer, told the crowd that the groundbreaking represented “the dawn of a new era for Children's Hospital and a renewed commitment to the children and families of Los Angeles, the surrounding counties and children everywhere.” |
