Children's Hospital Los Angeles was founded in response to the needs of our community. As a result, outreach has always been an integral part of our mission. Our efforts are guided by three overarching goals:
We work with caregivers, healthcare providers, schools, government representatives and civic leaders to identify the primary issues that impact the well-being of children and youth. In addition to the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California, we provide leadership for and collaborate with institutions including the Los Angeles Free Clinic, Covenant House, the Los Angeles Unified School District, city and county offices, and dozens of other organizations and associations. These collaborative efforts take many forms—clinical care, health prevention and promotion, education and training for physicians and other medical personnel, healthcare education and insurance enrollment for families, and research partnerships. Last year, the hospital provided over $50 million in community benefits, including care for low-income patients; community outreach programs for children and families; public health research; and education and training for healthcare professionals. |
