LA-HIP Program

Latino & African-American High School Internship Program (LA-HIP)

LA-HIP is biomedical summer research and college preparatory program for Latino and African American senior high school students who live or attend school in South or East Los Angeles. Our interns work for six weeks in medical research labs performing hands-on experiments relevant to childhood diseases.

WHAT DO LA-HIP INTERNS DO?

Students work under the direction of scientists and research on cancer, tuberculosis or investigate how the fish heart regenerates after an injury. Others study cancer cells in action, investigate microscopic bugs that harm the brain of premature babies, research the interaction of bacteria and antibiotics or figure out how the brain works. Importantly, everybody gets to do his or her own experiments that most undergraduate students only can dream about. Meet past interns and learn about their research.

LA-HIP HELPS YOU GET TO COLLEGE

LA-HIP is an internship program that also guides students through the college application and financial aid process. We want to make sure that you will go to the college or university that suits you best.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for students who may want to become scientists.  LA-HIP interns tend to be curious and want to actively find things out – they aren’t content just to watch and listen. Apply to LA-HIP
