The Saban Research Institute trains some of the best pediatric scientists in the world.

Objectives

Trainees who receive research education at The Saban Research Institute learn to:

  • Develop an important biomedical research question and associated scientific hypotheses
  • Develop an experimental protocol to investigate the research question and thus test the hypotheses.
  • Actively perform experiments, collect scientific data, analyze the results and draw appropriate conclusions.

LA-HIP
Latino & African-American High School Interview Program

A 6-week summer research internship for high school students entering 12th grade from select inner-city LAUSD and Compton Unified Schools. 

Undergraduate

STEP-UP
Short-term Education Program for Underrepresented Persons

A 10-week summer research program for undergraduate students supported by the National Institute of Health.

General / Volunteer

The research enterprise at The Saban Research Institute educates students at various academic levels as research volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering as a researcher, you should identify a scientist with whom you would like to work with and approach him/her for a potential position.

You will need to officially apply and submit an application to Children's Hospital Los Angeles once you have been accepted by a researcher.


Applicant Requirements

There are several requirements to participate in any of the programs offered.

  • Applicants must be students enrolled in high school, undergraduate, or medical school and be at least 17 years or older.
  • Applicants must complete the appropriate on-line application, which will be professionally reviewed by the Office of Research Education.
  • The application process is competitive; once accepted, participants will be working side by side with some of the nation's most respected pediatric scientists.

The mission of Research Education at The Saban Research Institute is to provide high-level mentorship, training and research education to individuals at various academic levels who have an interest in basic, translational, community-based and/or clinical research.
