Visit A Patient

For a recovering child, a visit from a caring family member or friend can provide a real boost.  The guidelines provided below are intended to maximize our patients' ability to heal from serious illness and injury.

For All Visitors

Visiting Hours 
9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily. 
Only parents or one designated family member may be in the patient's room before and after visiting hours.

Visitation Limits
We ask that a maximum of two visitors at a time arrive to visit a specific patient. 
In some instances, siblings may not be permitted to visit. 

Restricted Visiting Areas
Additional visitation guidelines exist in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit (BMT), the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU), the Center for Newborn and Infant Critical Care (CNICC) and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).   Visitation is limited to two visitors at a time, and, in some instances, sibling visitation may be restricted.

Identification Badges
To protect the security and privacy of our young patients, all visitors must check in with a Guest Services Representative at the Information Desk in the Main Lobby to obtain a Visitors Badge.

Health Care Information 
To protect each child’s privacy, only parents or legal guardians will be given any medical information about a patient. 

For Parents

For a child, having their parents near them, can significantly enhance the recovery process.  Whenever possible, we encourage parents to stay with their child, including spending the night.  Exceptions to this guideline might include:

• Brief periods of time when we ask you to step out of the room and into a nearby hallway or seating area.
• Most rooms in the hospital can only accommodate one adult staying overnight.   
• If a parent cannot stay overnight, families may choose one adult to remain with their child during the night.
• Intensive Care Units have limited sleeping accommodations for parents in overnight rooms that are separate from their child's care area.

Please know that we will not give out information about your child's medical condition to anyone other than your child's legal guardians.  Please ask extended family and friends to use you as their resource for information on your child's condition.

Visits from Siblings

Our patients’ sisters and brothers are important to them, but children under the age of 12 have more infectious diseases than adults and teenagers.  To preserve the health of all of our patients, we ask that you follow these policies:

• Children under 12 may only visit a patient if they are the child's brother or sister.
• Siblings under 12 who have rashes, runny noses, fever or recent exposure to an infectious disease MAY NOT visit patients.
• A maximum of two children may visit a patient's room at one time.
• All child visitors must be supervised by an adult.
