Who We Are
Childrens Hospital Los Angeles is a nonprofit, academic, pediatric medical center. We provide the highest quality healthcare for children who are the sickest and most seriously injured in our region and beyond.
Each year, we treat more than 93,000 children who need care that is so complex, it can only be provided by medical experts. We provide care in more than 100 medical specialty and subspecialty areas. We are a research hospital and believe that it is through research that we can improve the delivery of care to the children of the future.
Who We Serve
The majority of our patients come from Los Angeles County. However, because of our reputation, we receive patients who are referred from the seven counties* surrounding Los Angeles, from across California, and around the world.
* Includes Kern, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura
Medical Staff
The hospital retains the services of 498 physicians:
Trauma
The hospital is designated as a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center by the Los Angeles County EMS Agency.
Emergency Transport
The hospital operates one of the largest dedicated neonatal/pediatric transport programs in the nation - and it annually triages more than 3,000 patients using a Sikorsky S-76 helicopter, a chartered Lear jet and other means of transportation.
Intensive Care
The 40-bed Newborn and Infant Critical Care Unit provides innovative therapies for high-risk infants transferred from other hospitals throughout Southern California and beyond; the 20-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and the 15-bed Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit provide more pediatric critical care beds than at any other hospital in the western United States.
Teaching Programs
Through our affiliation with the University of Southern California, the hospital trains the caregivers of tomorrow, teaching hundreds of residents, fellows, and nursing students each year.
Research Programs
Through The Saban Research Institute we conduct research in the laboratory, the clinic, and the community to discover better ways to diagnose, treat, and prevent pediatric diseases.
