Maricela Contreras Receives the Second Annual Daryl Bacquet Safety Award from Childrens Hospital Los Angeles

The Bacquet Award recognizes an outstanding leader in the promotion of safe work practices
that contribute to injury reduction and a hazard-free environment

LOS ANGELES – Maricela Contreras, a service technician on our surgical and rehabilitation patient floor at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, has been awarded the 2009 Daryl Bacquet Safety Award.

The Daryl Bacquet Safety Award recognizes an outstanding leader in the promotion of safe work practices that contribute to injury reduction and a hazard-free environment by implementing an effective safety program, being a strong advocate for safety, bringing about significant safety improvements and hazard reductions, maintaining a good safety program over a period of years and special efforts given to a specific aspect of safety in the workplace.

Ms. Contreras is the second recipient of the Bacquet Award at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles in recognition of her efforts in demonstrating leadership and commitment to safety. She was selected among 11 nominees by the Safety Award Committee.

“She makes sure that the staff and patients are in a safe environment,” says one of her nominators. “She practices good safety in the work place and ensures others do the same. She is particularly vigilant and she constantly makes rounds and makes sure halls are safe,” says another nominator. 

“I was honored to be nominated among so many great nominees,” said Ms. Contreras   “It felt great to be recognized for my safety efforts.”

The Daryl Bacquet Safety Award was established in memory of Daryl Bacquet and his exemplary contributions as safety officer during his 11 years of service at the hospital.

Ms. Contreras and her son, Alejandro, live in Los Angeles.
