Title:Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics
Research Topics:
Research Interests:Biopsychosocial, neurodevelopmental, and neurobehavioral investigations of acute and chronic pain, chronic illness and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in medically ill children and adolescents. <br><br> Dr. Gold is actively engaged in the evaluation and utility of complementary and alternative medicine (i.e., virtual reality, massage) for reducing pain, anxiety, psychological distress and increasing comfort and satisfaction in hospitalized children. He is currently a co- investigator on a NIH Program Project with the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Centers - Clinical Trials Consortium, examining neuropsychological dysfunction and neuroimaging abnormalities in neurologically intact adult patients with sickle cell disease, NIMH-funded program examining acute stress reactions in children following physical trauma (i.e., motor vehicle accidents), and intramural support from the Saban Research Institute examining the neurobiological basis of virtual reality pain attenuation.
