We are delighted to announce the first ever CHLA Gores Family Allergy Center Parent Workshop, hosted by the Division of Clinical Immunology and Allergy and the Gores Family Allergy Center.

Welcome and Keynote Lecture

The Spectrum of Pediatric Food Allergy

Workshops

Participants will then be able to choose to attend any 2 out of 4 workshop-style sessions, led by our allergy team members. Each workshop will consist of a 35 minute presentation and 10 minutes of questions & answers to follow. 

Workshops will be repeated twice, so you can attend any 2 out of the 4 below.

To conclude the morning we will re-group and offer a shared vision for providing excellent care for the food allergy community. We look forward to your participation in our first CHLA Food Allergy Family Day!

Considerations in Food Desensitization/Oral Immunotherapy

Dr. Jonathan Tam, Medical Director, Gores Family Allergy Center

This workshop will cover our experience with the various aspects of food desensitization – duration, what to expect, how it may impact your family, benefits versus risks.

Back to School with Food Allergies

Sarah Herr, Nurse Coordinator, Gores Family Allergy Center

This workshop will address some common questions and concerns about food allergies in schools.  We will discuss strategies for empowering students and families to have a happy and healthy school year.

Meal Planning on Elimination Diets

Jill Madison, Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist, Gores Family Allergy Center

This workshop will cover general childhood nutritional needs, meal patterns according to age, appropriate food substitution, and nutrient dense foods.

Fostering the Feeding Continuum with Food Allergies

Adina Schwartz, Occupational Therapist/ Feeding Therapist, CHLA Division of Rehabilitation Medicine

This workshop will review the developmental stages of feeding, signs of oral aversions and simple treatment techniques, and creative (playful) strategies to explore new “safe” foods.
